Keeping the Kids Happy over Easter

The UK Easter holidays last at least two weeks. It can sometimes feel like a daunting task trying to think of activities to keep the kids happy and occupied over Easter without spending a fortune, so we’ve come up with a few ideas for you.

Cadbury Easter egg Hunt

The National Trust have teamed up with Cadburys to run Easter Egg Hunts at 260 locations across the UK, including several in Cumbria within a short drive of Kirkby Lonsdale Cottages.

Easter Themed Events

Check out your local papers and social media for events that are free.

Visit a Museum

Most museums are free, asking instead for a donation. There are some fantastic museums across the UK many of which you can turn into a full day out. In Cumbria and around the Lake District we are lucky to have several museums worth a visit. These include the Lakeland Motor Museum, Abbot Hall Art Gallery, Barrow Dock Museum, Derwent Pencil Museum, The World of Beatrix Potter and The Windermere Jetty Museum very recently opened by HRH Prince Charles.

Take a Train

With the many discounts available, and a Family & Friends Railcard, why not take a train trip. Visit one of the many great cities in the UK, or travel out to the country. Kirkby Lonsdale Cottages is only 20 minutes from Oxenholme Station in the Lake District. From there you can travel anywhere in the country or take a train to Windermere and enjoy a day out in the Lakes.

Visit a Chocolate Shop

Every town needs a chocolate shop and we are lucky enough to have one in Kirkby Lonsdale. Chocolat sells a fabulous selection of chocolates and local produce with a mini chocolate mine downstairs to visit.

Create your own Easter egg hunt

A simple activity that can provide so much fun.

Get Baking

What better way to celebrate Easter than to bake something delicious. From easy Easter nests and brownies to wonderful simnel cakes and hot cross buns. Give it a go.

Spring Clean

Why not get the kids involved in a spring clean. Maybe a cupboard each, a bookshelf, under the bed, wardrobes, the freezer. Give them a task, and a chocolate treat at the end. It’s surprising how much of a sense of an achievement they will feel.

Paint Eggs and Easter Crafts

There are plenty of ideas online and on Pinterest for crafts to do, things to make and ideas to keep kids happy. Take a look.

Look for Lambs

Why not get out into the country and find some newly born lambs, enjoy the scenery and fresh air.

 Book a Break

Our final suggestion is to book a break away. Whether it’s for 3 days over a weekend or a full week, its great to get away, spend time together as a family or group of friends and recharge yourself, relax, have fun and be together.

At Kirkby Lonsdale Cottages we offer 3,4 and 7 night stays. Prices on our website are per stay, and are extremely good value per person given the accommodation standard. Our self-catering accommodation Ingleborough House sleeps up to 8 people over 4 double bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, with a large outdoor patio and hot tub. The large spacious living areas and kitchen offer a great space to gather together as friends or family. The house works really well for two families of four with younger children or a larger family bringing grandparents along too. Take a look and enjoy the Easter Break.
